Studia Semiotyczne invites conceptual and empirical research connecting translation studies, musicology, and semiotics through musical texts and meaning-making.
Studia Semiotyczne (Semiotic Studies) invites submissions for a special issue exploring the relationship between translation, semiotics, and music.
Papers should be written in English or Polish and prepared for blind review.
The relationship between translation and music has attracted increasing scholarly attention, with research examining the complex relationship between words and sounds. Yet translation studies and musicology have often remained separate, with each field tending to focus primarily on verbal translation or music.
This special issue seeks to bring these fields together through semiotics-based research on musical texts, exploring how semiotics can contribute to translation studies and to a deeper understanding of musical meaning-making.
Research on translation and music can move beyond words, verbal artifacts, and textual analysis toward the performative, enacted, embedded, and embodied dimensions of meaning-making. The issue therefore encourages approaches attentive to the material processes of cultural practices and to forms of meaning that cannot be reduced to verbal expression.
The editors welcome conceptual and empirical research from scholars across disciplines that explores how semiotics can bridge translation studies and musicology.
